Corinthian Colleges, Inc. Career Opportunities |
Opportunity Snapshot
You've spent years learning the ins and outs of your profession -- this is your opportunity to give something back to your profession, and to its next generation of professionals. Corinthian Colleges hires Instructors who are professionals in their field so that our students receive practical advice in each subject area based on real-world experience.
Help our students achieve their dreams. . .
"Achieving dreams" sounds like a lofty goal, but at Corinthian Colleges, that's what we do -- help students achieve their dreams by giving them the skills they need to be successful in a wide variety of careers -- and connecting them with employers upon graduation.
Launch a new career with a dynamic, rapidly growing company. . .
Corinthian Colleges is a young and dynamic organization that has quickly grown to become one of North America's largest post secondary education companies. We operate more than 100 campuses across the continent as well as a rapidly growing online education division.
Great career opportunity. . .
The Everest Institute at our Skokie, IL campus has an opening for an Instructor in our weekend MA program. The hours are Friday 5-10pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am-5pm. This is a great opportunity to supplement your income or launch a new career in education. Many of our Instructors go on to leadership positions both on campus and at our corporate offices!
Our Requirements
* Prior teaching experience is helpful, but not required. Corinthian Colleges will provide in-depth training for all new Instructors.
Skokie, IL Campus
The Skokie Everest campus is located in the greater metropolitan Chicago area, and has spacious classrooms, labs, a resource center, and administrative areas. It is one of the more beautiful Everest campuses, and we are proud of both our park-like surroundings and our very diverse student base. At last count, we have 25 different countries represented in our student body! Like many Everest campuses, ours is also a growing one, and we've expanded from 300 students in 2006 to over 800 today.
To support our dynamic student population, we have added a new Dental Assisting program in May 2009 and we are about to undertake a major remodel of our administrative offices this month. In addition, we're looking forward to implementing Smart Boards and other new technologies in our classrooms and labs in 2010.
More About Your Role
You'll start with our INSPIRE! training program, which will provide you with proven techniques to fully engage students in the learning process. Since the majority of our students live independently of their parents, INSPIRE! focuses on how adults learn, how they are motivated, and effective classroom management.
These teaching methods are a natural fit with our program curricula. In most of our larger programs, we use customized textbooks that provide job-specific course content and a range of supplemental learning exercises. In our Medical Assisting programs, for example, students not only read about how to check vital signs, they practice the performance of vital signs in a lab setting.
After training, you will be ready for the classroom: you'll co-present with a mentor for a transitional period and then have the ongoing support of the Department Chair. As a fully-fledged Instructor, you'll spend the majority of your time (about 95%) in front of students, with a class size averaging about 20, with a maximum of 24. Your other general duties will include:
Since you will be stepping out of a practical role in your field, we'll help you keep your skills current by sponsoring continuing education credits and external learning opportunities, such as national conferences.
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an Instructor at Corinthian Colleges is that you will see the fruits of your labor. Because we place such a strong emphasis on transitioning our students into real-world careers, you won't be left wondering "whatever happened to that student..." Here, you will share in their entire education journey -- from their first days on campus, to their "a ha" learning moments, to their joy at graduation, and finally, to their capstone moment when they land their first job.
Keys to Success
Everyone remembers at least one great teacher from the past, and typically that memorable teacher is the one who built strong connections with creative teaching methods. That's what INSPIRE! is all about - inspiring students with a passion to achieve through engaging classroom activities and curricula. To be an outstanding Instructor at Corinthian, you will:
Corinthian Colleges is also committed to your ongoing development, and the Instructor role can be just the beginning of a rewarding new career path. A typical career progression might be: Instructor, to Lead Instructor, to Department Chair, to then up to Dean and Director-level positions. In fact, our current Director of Education at the Gahanna campus started as a substitute Instructor!
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, we look forward to hearing from you!
